Lebanese Television Stations

As already mentioned most broadcasters and television stations in Lebanon are privately owned. This site presents a short overview of Lebanese television stations – no matter if they are privately owned or in the complete possession of the state.

Al Jadeed which is formerly known as New TV represents a 24-hours PAN Arab television station. It was launched on October 4, 2001 and generally broadcasts from Lebanon and provides a wide range of general-interest programming. Concerning the broadcast language it can be said that Al Jadeed offers news and general programs in the Arabic language.

Al-Manar represents a Lebanese satellite television network that generally broadcasts from Beirut. It was launched on June 3, 1991 and is basically available in Middle East and Europe as well as by means of webcast, a media file that uses streaming media technology. Al-Manar provides a “rich menu” of programming – in other words high production news, entertainment, and commentary. Furthermore, it can be said that Al-Manar is in the possession of the Lebanese Communication Group which is also known as the Lebanese Media Group.

The Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation represents the very first Lebanese private television station. It was launched on August 23, 1985 and founded by Bashir Gemayel who was the commander of the Lebanese Forces. Apart from the Lebanon, the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation is also available in the whole Arab world, Europe, the Sub Saharian Africa region, America as well as Australia. It went global in 1996 – strictly speaking at that time when it launched its satellite channel LBC Al-Fadha’iya Al-Lubnaniya. Furthermore, the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation is currently one of the most popular channels in whole Lebanon.

OTV, also known as Orange TV, is a Lebanese publicly-traded television network which was launched in May, 2007. It is owned by the OTV Holding and generally broadcasts in the Arabic language. Concerning the broadcast area it can be said that OTV covers, apart from the Lebanon itself, the Arab World, Europe, the United States, North America and Australia
